The Creation-Centred Liturgy workshop, led by Dave Bookless at the "Climate Change: How Christians Respond" conference
The most memorable thing about this workshop was Dave's reminder to us that worship should be part of our everyday lives, spirituality flowing into action, and not just something done in church on a Sunday. As one lady commented, she had come looking for ideas for a special creation-focused service, but had realised that the best way to encourage her congregation to consider environmental issues was to make references to creation a normal part of all church life.
This theme was well expressed by an acrostic, with Dave providing examples to illustrate each point:
Wonder at God's creativity
Openness to God in creation
Rootedness in the place God has put us
Simplicity of life and lifestyle or Sustainable lifestyle
Hands-on involvement with the earth
Integration of work, rest, creativity, relationships
Prayer for God's kingdom on earth as in heaven
We ended with a meditation of words and pictures showing what could be done within the setting of a church service.
