Ecohouse slide F3
Take a break from looking at the slides to read one of Averil's poems!
LET'S DO IT!
Winds are getting stronger, with tornados and tsunami.
The rate the sea is rising is even more alarming.
Climate change is threatening much of life on earth
so I have been investigating what it would be worth
doing to make a difference. Now I have no spouse
it's sensible and ethical to buy a smaller house.
I've chosen a small semi so I have some cash left over
to set a good example by making it much greener.
I need a bigger kitchen so a timber built extension
will house my washer (triple A). It is my intention
to shrink my carbon footprint. I'll have to use less power
so I've fitted solar panels to heat water for my shower.
Above my roof a turbine will be spinning quietly
transforming gusts and breezes to electricity.
The loft and walls are padded out with genuine fleece
protecting me from cold and heat, like a moorland sheep.
My Danish double glazing is framed in solid wood.
Plastic uses too much oil. Everybody should
use timber that's sustainable. Firing bricks is cruel
to the environment, burning too much fuel.
Buried in my garden is an underground tank
to take the rainfall from my roof and store it, like a bank,
for watering and washing clothes, and to flush the loo.
This will cut my water bills. Could you do it too?.
Perhaps you think `OK for her; she's a toff'
but everyone could make a start by switching things off
and cutting down consumption of petrol, gas and oil.
The world is far too wonderful for us to spoil!
